(Yeah. I mean not to be mean to the OP but i feel like even to Russia's character it just seems so overplayed and generic. Ivan has a lot more qualities than vodka, sunflowers, and 'hurting people' which i doubt he even likes to do. Plus i knew it was a matter of time before someone asked this. Although they did help me get it out of the way)
I also agree with you on this! I'm getting sick of seeing Russia cast as a villain type. I mean, don't get me wrong, he can be an awesome villain, but this is pretty much the same as turning France into a nymphomaniac who can't control himself. It's like they're only seeing one piece of these characters and they can be so much more than that! (Sorry, I'm ranting now...)))
Yeah I mean once and a while I think it's okay? I mean I know very little about Russian history but i doubt he'd be a heartless asshole. Same for France I just feel like a lot of the characters are portrayed wrongly in the fandom. And no it's okay I feel the same way about this strongly. I was expecting this because I've seen things where like..Russia terrorizes Kansas because of sunflowers? I think I saw it once or something. I just think that making the connection between those two on a very generic thing is dumb. If Russia and Kansas were to meet he might be interested maybe that he's the sunflower state but I doubt stalking him or threatening to take his sunflowers, when Russia has LOTS of them is is sorts bleh also.)
Russian history is supposedly a dark history but I don't know much about it myself (outside of what became of the last Tsar and his family) but I agree. Russia wouldn't be completely heartless. Heck, he's portrayed as far from being just a heartless bastard as you can get in the episode of the anime where Ukraine and Belarus are being introduced! He talks about them like how I imagine my brother talks about me and my sister. I can't figure out why he keeps getting the 2-D character card! There's just so much that can get fleshed out with him!
Also, the Russia/Kansas connection with sunflowers... that would be sort of like having Germany terrorize Texas because of their shared love of beer. I could get a giggle out of something like that if it was intended to be humorous, but if that's all that's being seriously connected between the two, it's just horrible. (And German Immigrants had a huge influence on Texan culture. That would just make me sad if the beer thing was all that someone connected to them!)
(Yeah i think ive heard that too about Russian history. And yeah besides maybe sometimes being a tiny bit cruel its just very unrealistic because the countries are suppoused to represent the people not the goverment. And yeah i mean that and then the fact i remember seeing one time in the comic that he was crying over some war or something about his people being oppressed. i dunno exactly besides the fact he was very upset emotionally.
Yeah i mean although as ive stated with my head canon that Kansas has no idea who Russia is as a person and probably hasnt ever seen him besides pyshical description it would be odd for him to meet Russia. But if i did have them interact or someone rping a russia was interacting with my kansas he'd probably just sorta be like "..yeah..im the sunflower state..but thats just a nickname.." But thats the only connection besides the SMALL amount of russian immigrants or descendants of Russian immigrants that live in Kansas. So the two are extremely loosely connected with history terms. ))
